There is plenty to see and do in and around Boulogne sur Mer and here is a list of some local attractions.
Boulogne-sur-Mer
Boulogne is the largest fishing port in France. From the Stalls along the edge of the port you can buy fish is so fresh sometimes the fish still alive, there is also Capécure, the commercial port where the fish is auctioned. Boulogne also has a Natural History Museum. At the city library in the Annunciates, you can visit the gardens and cloisters whilst the Maison de la Beuriére chronicles the life of fishermen in the olden days. There is a Casino, a bowling alley and two Golf courses nearby. Market days on Wednesday and Saturday morning –place Dalton, Sunday morning –place Vignon et Quai Gambetta from May until October
Desvres
A short drive from Samer, you find the small lively market town of Desvres. The name of Desvres is synonymous with beautiful earthenware pottery, known the world over for centuries and the clock in the prime position in the main square certainly bears testament to the local industry. Desvres has a restaurants and shops selling the local earthenware. Every Tuesday there is a weekly market. There are walks in the surrounding countryside to enjoy, especially Mont Pelé, for the energetic.
Montreuil-sur-mer
Montreuil-sur-mer a medieval port but now inland from le Touquet. The old ramparts of Montreuil, look out over the valley of the river Canche towards the sea at Etaples. Back in the 13th century this town known as ‘’ Montreuil-on-sea’’ was one of the wealthiest ports in northern Europe. The estuary of the river Canche then reached up on Montreuil, its quays thronged with sailing ships carring pilgrims to the holy relics in Montreuil’s churches and trading cloth, grain and wine. Above the port on the 40m high chalk hill, stood the walled town and market place all guarded by a royal castle built by French king Philippe Auguste. Montreuil has several shops, bars and restaurants.
Le Touquet
Le Touquet has a reputation as the most elegant resort of northern France, the playground of rich Parisians, with many luxury hotels.
Ever since the mid-1990s Le Touquet’s villas have become extremely fashionable amongst architecture lovers throughout Europe, rediscovering the ‘’folie’’ of seaside architecture of both the roaring twenties and the thirties. The most famous local architect is Louis Quetelart, whose style was named after him: Louis Quetelart style.
Inland from the beach, hotels, casino and horse racing course, particularly golf are offered. The casino provided the inspiration of the casino of Royale-les-Eaux in Casino Royale.

Wimereux Golf Course
Situated 6 km from Boulogne-sur-Mer, 20 km from Calais, this links stretches out between the sea, the harmonious hilly countryside of the Boulonnais and the dunes of Ambleteuse (protected and classified site). From each hole, one discovers a picturesque landscape. It is the only course overlooking the continuous channel traffic with the white cliffs of Dover in the background.
